Frost is now a game! And you can play it for FREE!

Hi everyone,

Lots going on.

First, I have some exciting news! Back in the summer, I was approached by Delight Games about the company acquiring the text game rights to Frost.

Now, I'm happy to tell you that the app "choices game" version of Frost is available for play!

Are you an Android user? Get it on Google Play.

Are you an Apple user? Coming soon!!

(You can also get it on Amazon.)

To celebrate the game's release, Frost is on sale this week at 99 cents. So if you haven't read it yet, now is a great time to grab a copy at:

Amazon
Nook
Kobo
Google Play
iBooks
Goodreads

In the frozen world of the Frost, only mysterious blue flowers that bloom in the snow keep the monsters at bay. The air is icy cold. It's easy to get lost. One wrong move and a person could end up dead.

Lia Weaver knows this better than anyone.

After monsters kill her parents, Lia must keep the family farm running in their place. She follows the rules of the village: Don't talk to outsiders. Don't go into the Frost at night. Don't ask too many questions. Rules keep her family alive in this harsh and unforgiving world.

But when her sister finds a handsome fugitive bleeding to death in the forest at dusk, Lia surprises herself and does the unthinkable.

She saves his life.

Other news!

I promised you guys I would not take as long to release the next book as I did the last. I'm happy to announce that I am roughly halfway through book #4 in the Kingmakers' War. Be on the lookout for a title, cover, and some teaser quotes in the near future. I'm hoping for a January release. :)

And lastly, my fellow author Lea Doue is having a giveaway through Dec 15th!

News and Updates

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry it's been so long since I made any kind of update about the progress of my next book, #3 in the Kingmakers' War series. I've been on a hiatus of sorts due to a sudden and very urgent medical situation in my immediate family. The circumstance is still ongoing and will be indefinitely, but I'm trying to return to work now. I feel a bit scattered still, but I'm here.

I originally hoped to release book #3 (I have a title and a cover, and I plan to reveal those things soon!) in June, but you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men. I'm now hoping for August.

However, between now and then I'll do my best to update you all with a few tidbits about Briand and Kael to tide you over.

Other news!

Frost (The Frost Chronicles #1) is on sale for Prime Day. If you haven't read it or know someone who hasn't but might like to, you can get your Kindle copy here!

Also, on Thursday (7/13) I'll be participating in a Facebook read-along for Julia Hall's Life After series to celebrate the newest release in the series. I'll be giving away some books and interacting with people at 8 PM EST, so come and check that out.

Finally, I thought I would dedicate the latest Kingmaker book to a reader. I will get a contest set up for that soon, so if you'd like to see your name on the dedication page, be watching for that. I think it's going to be a "spread the word" sort of thing--I'll probably put A Gift of Poison on sale and you'll be able to enter by sharing a link to that in some form or writing a short blurb about it on social media.

Thank you all for being lovely and patient. Talk to you again soon.

The Darkest Day in the Frost is here!

Hi everyone,

My holiday surprise anthology is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble for Nook readers.

I enjoyed revisiting Lia, Briand, and Aemi for these holiday stories, and I hope you guys enjoy seeing them again too. All of the stories can be read by anyone, so even if you haven't read the Secrets of Itlantis series or the Frost series or the Kingmakers' War series, you won't find spoilers or be confused about previous plot elements.

Here's the summary:

Return to the world of the Frost (and other fantasy worlds) in this fantasy holiday anthology!

This short story collection contains three stories by Kate Avery Ellison, set in her fantasy series the Frost Chronicles, the Kingmakers' War, and Secrets of Itlantis.

"The Darkest Day in the Frost" - Lia Weaver and her siblings are struggling to survive after the death of her parents. But someone is watching out for her.

"The White Doe of Winterval" - Briand meets the new castle steward, Kael, on the eve of the winter holiday Winterval.

"The Last Sacrifice" - Aemi schemes to get her mother a necklace to wear for the Lighting ceremony. Nol tries to stop her.

Hope you all enjoy!

Coming this week! Holiday stories about Lia, Briand, and Aemi!

Guys! I have a Christmas surprise!

I've written a book of holiday short stories set in the worlds of the Frost, A Gift of Poison (the Kingmakers' War series), and Of Sea and Stone (Secrets of Itlantis)!

All the stories can be enjoyed by anyone, even those who haven't read the stories (but there will be some fun things for fans).

The stories include:

"The Darkest Day in the Frost" - Lia and her siblings try to celebrate the new year without her parents. There's a bit of an Adam cameo. :)

"The White Doe of Winterval" - Briand steals a horse and rides in a hunt. She meets Kael for the first time, and he bestows upon her the nickname Catfoot. :D

"The Last Sacrifice" - Aemi does rebellious and risky things in order to win money to buy her mother a necklace for the Lightning that night. She and Nol snark at each other, of course. :)

I hope to have it up for sale sometime this weekend! So stay tuned!

Other news - Briand and Kael fans, you're in luck. I'm still working on the Kael novella and hope to have that out before the end of the year. Then, I'll finish the next Briand book, and then I've got a few new projects in the works as well.

It's Release Day for STEAM AND GLASS (A New Frost Novel)!

Hello, lovelies! Steam and Glass is live on Amazon for the Kindle and at Barnes & Noble for the Nook!

(Print copies will be available soon -- check back.)

And you can add it on Goodreads!

Ann Mayor has spent her life in the shadows--the shadow of the the Frost, the shadow of her father, even the shadow of her best friend, Lia Weaver.

Ann has never questioned that Lia is the brave one between them. After all, Lia lives outside the village, side by side with the wilderness, close enough to hear the Watchers scream at night. Ann lives under the careful watch of her devious father, surrounded by luxury.

But then the cruel and mysterious Farthers from farther than the Frost invade, overtaking the village of Iceliss and bringing a mysterious agenda as they search the Frost for a device of power. With them comes a nobleman named Korr whose intents and loyalties remain inscrutable. Ann is drawn to him, for he has spent his life in the shadows too. She doesn't know if he is good or evil, but when she is arrested for treason, she's forced to trust him as she's taken from the Frost.

As a political prisoner in Korr's hands, Ann is tested beyond what she ever imagined, and she realizes she has more bravery in her than she knew.

PS ~ Book #1, Frost, will be on sale for a short time to celebrate the release of Steam and Glass. Share the news online! Tell a friend if you think they'll enjoy the series!

Thoughts about Steam and Glass:

So when I first sat down to write Steam and Glass, I felt a little trepidation, because Ann's story is tricky in some ways. I wanted to write it because 1) I knew there was a lot to Ann that never was fully explained or revealed in the main series and 2) I'd received encouragement from a number of readers to write another book about the Frost.

I had to puzzle out the best way to make Steam and Glass interesting to readers, because Ann is both quiet and also occasionally a little vapid, at least initially, but I knew she was much more than that, and I wanted to make sure her story was told in a way that did her justice.  In the first book she comes across as a bit of a fragile, prissy character who does a fair amount of crying and who is a little oblivious to Lia's needs and struggles, at least from Lia's perspective, but as the series goes on, you see her revealed to be a strong, sensible person. I wanted to explore that seeming contradiction. And man, once I delved into Ann's perspective, I found her fascinating to explore. I loved her dynamic with Korr, I loved her inner struggle, and I loved her cleverness. I found myself relating to her and admiring her again and again as she unfolded as a character.

I hope you all enjoy getting to know her as much as I did. She's a lovely character and so strong. Thank you to everyone who suggested I write another Frost book, because I'm not sure I would have done it without your urging, and I deeply enjoying revisiting this series.

What's Coming Next

Hi everyone,

I wanted to give everyone an update on some of the things I'm working on!

I'm about a third of the way through the 1st draft of book #3 in the Secrets of Itlantis series, titled With Tide and Tempest. That book should release sometime in late June or early July, hopefully! The cover isn't available yet, I'll let you guys know when it is.

I'm also working on another Frost novella from Ann's perspective. I'm not sure when this will release, but it's a story I do want to tell, and it's got lots of interesting bits, so stay tuned for that.

Lastly, I have another new series I'm working on, the first of which is titled Masked Magic. I'm excited about this one too. More details to come.

Until then, happy reading!

A TITLE for Secrets of Itlantis #2 + some announcements!

Hey everyone!

Couple of updates on book series old and new:

Due to part of an arrangement I've made with Amazon, the Frost series is now available in the Kindle Lending Library! This means that if you have Amazon Prime, you can borrow them for free! The downside, Nook readers, is that they are going to be unavailable for a short while at Barnes and Noble. They should be back by the summer, though.

Also, new release in the Frost world. Or an old release, rather. SURVIVAL LESSONS, a short story that originally appeared in the anthology DARKEST WORLDS, is now available on Amazon. You can get it here.

In other news, I am now in revisions for the sequel to Of Sea and Stone. Annnnd I have a title to announce.

And I'm also going to be releasing a bundle of the Frost novellas and this short story, so if you buy all three together you can save some $$$.

In other news, regarding the new series SECRETS OF ITLANTIS:

The second book in the Secrets of Itlantis series will be called:

BY SUN AND SALTWATER.

The cover should be available in a few weeks, so stay tuned for that. I have some other cool deals and news coming down the pipe this month, so be sure to check back. In the meantime, happy reading!

Teaserday Tuesday: Brewer Hints!

I've decided that on Tuesdays, to spice up the week a little and have some fun, I will release hints, teasers, and excerpts about upcoming books! This will be called:

TEASERDAY TUESDAY

Today's teaser is three facts about Brewer, the upcoming Frost novelette from Adam's perspective. Expected publication: December.

So here you go. One is kinda spoilery if you haven't read the first book, so...highlight to read.

In Brewer, we'll see...

1. How Adam's family came to the Frost (it was his idea)
2. How Adam joined the Thorns
3. Several events we are already familiar with, seen through Adam's eyes.

Also, if you like my Facebook page, you can be sure to get some extra hints and teasers that I'll post to my page there exclusively. So check out a quote from Brewer here!

If all goes according to schedule, Brewer should be available in stores in mid-to-late December 2013!

Cover reveal....BREWER!

Today we have a coooooover reveeeeeeal!

Coming in December...

BREWER: A FROST STORY!

...

.....

......

And here it is!

I chose a lantern for the cover because it's the way Lia signals to Adam that she needs to speak with him. I think it's a rather nice symbol for him.

I just finished the first draft for this, and it will be revised and edited over the next month or so. Brewer should be available in stores in mid December, if all goes according to schedule.

Want to know as soon as Brewer is available? There are several ways to be in the loop! You can "like" me on Facebook, sign up for my Newsletter, or (if you read Kindle) go to my author page and click "notify me of new releases by this author." Voila!

FUGITIVE cover reveal!

Today, everybody, we have a cover reveal for Fugitive, a Frost novelette telling some of Gabe's story from his perspective!

And here it is...

....

.......

..........

Trust doesn't come easily...Gabe is a fugitive on the run. Betrayed by family back home, hunted by soldiers, he doesn't know who to trust. When Lia Weaver finds him bleeding in the wilderness, his life changes forever.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This Frost story contains spoilers for books 1-4 of The Frost Chronicles. The events take place up through the end of Bluewing. It can be read after Bluewing/before Aeralis, or after the entire series has been finished.

Fugitive is a Frost novelette of about 16 thousand words (meaning it's a good bit longer than a short story, but not quite long enough to be a novella/novel) that tells part of the story from Gabe's point of view. There's a lot of stuff from his life in Aeralis and more insight into his relationship with his brother. I hope you all enjoy it.

This novelette will be dedicated to reader and fan Natalie Cleary, because she was one of the winners in my recent contest!!! Congrats again, Natalie. :)

Hopefully the novelette will release around the end of this month, so stay tuned for more details. As always, you can like me on Facebook or sign up for my New Releases Newsletter to stay up to date with releases and other news!

AERALIS is coming soon! First, some TEASERS

Hi lovely readers!

I have a few treats and news for you today.

First, did you know you can sign up to get an email from Amazon whenever an author you like releases a new book? If you look here on my Amazon author page, in the right-hand corner, it says "STAY UP TO DATE." Click the text below it that says "E-mail me when there are new releases by Kate Avery Ellison" and voila! You're signed up. It's THAT easy. Pretty cool, I say.

You could also sign up for my newsletter if you want to be sure to get fast notice of a new release. Like, say, AERALIS!

*shakes pom poms*

Either way, it's a cool feature that I didn't know existed. I'm definitely gonna be using that Amazon notification thing with some of my favorite authors in the future.

Now for the treats. Here're some some TEASERS from Aeralis!!! First I've got some quotes. I won't tell you who said them, but I'll give you choices. Okay? :)

This quote was said by either Korr, Gabe, or Adam. Who do you think it was?

“I’ll concede to you the battle,” he said. “But not the war. Sooner or later, Lia Weaver, I’ll have something you want.”

This one is either spoken by Gabe, Lia, or Korr.

“How dare you tail me like I’m some suspect your organization wants to spy upon? Who ordered you to do it?”

And here's a small excerpt of a rather tense scene between Adam and Lia, which includes a new character named Raven. Adam and Lia aren't very happy with each other at this particular moment.

~~~
HE SCANNED THE room and spotted me. He went still, his shoulders tensing, his eyebrows pulling together as he regarded me. “Lia?” he spoke as if to himself only, as if I were just a dream conjured in his mind.
I met his eyes without flinching, although a jolt of something tense and electric and frightening shot through me at the intensity in his gaze. “Yes.”
“What are you doing here?” The words were calm, soft, but an undercurrent of something cold lurked in them.
Raven stepped from behind the curtain in the silk shirt, and her lips curved in a slight smile as she saw Adam. “Brewer,” she said, not sounding surprised. “I thought I saw Merrick slipping away through the crowd when we arrived. He must have told you right away.”
Adam didn’t answer her. His eyes never left mine as he laid his hat on the table and stripped off his gloves.
“Is it Jonn?” His tone was flat, with no discernible glimmer of emotion in it.
“Jonn’s condition hasn’t changed,” I said.
Raven looked from Adam to me. We continued to ignore her. Adam raised his eyebrows at me and tipped his head. He looked calm, but I saw the tension in his fingers, his neck. His question was clear.
Why had I defied my orders, then?
~~~

So, be sure to sign up for my newsletter OR go to my author page on Amazon and click the text to get an email from Amazon when Aeralis releases in just a few weeks. Less than two weeks, actually. Very, very soon!!

Darkest Worlds is available for sale!

Darkest Worlds, a dystopian anthology which includes a Frost short story, is now available for sale at Amazon and Barnes & Noble!

Here's the summary of my Frost story, which is 10,000 words (essentially a novelette):

Survival Lessons by Kate Avery Ellison, author of Frost: A young Farther prisoner named Eva escapes into the monster-filled wilderness of the Frost with a band of fellow inmates, all of whom are harboring secrets...but little do they know that Eva has secrets of her own. Set in the world of The Frost Chronicles.

The story is non-essential to the main series (meaning you don't have to read it in order to read/enjoy/follow the main series plot line), but the events that occur in this story do tie in with a plot point mentioned in Aeralis, PLUS a few familiar characters make cameos in it!

So be sure to check it out if you're interested. The anthology also includes dystopian works by five other fabulous authors--SK Falls, Katie French, Zoe Cannon, Megan Thomason, and AG Henley. And don't forget--all proceeds go to charity!
