The People of the Rocks live above the sea in the rocks from which they get their name—a collection of bone-white shards of hulking stone that protrude from the jewel-green water like the teeth of a rotting jawbone, sea-stained and crumbling even in their glory. The village is carved into these rocks, carved deep like the tunnels of ants into the earth, and the effect is that of thousands of pin-pricks of light when it is night and the sea and sky are dark. Travelers say it looks as though someone has folded the sky around the rocks like a blanket, and all the stars are on fire.

The melody of the waves lulls the babies to sleep at night in their seaweed-fiber cradles, and the rush of the tide makes them wake in the morning. The People of the Rocks sing love songs about the sea, and they play in its shallows as children, but as men they grow to fear its power and its secrets.

If only we’d known how many secrets the sea held.

Bluewing Teasers #2

Guess what, you guys?

I just finished the final round of edits for Bluewing!

So...this means I have one more read-through to do, and then the book goes to formatting, and then it will be available for Kindle and Nook!! I am tentatively guessing/hoping it will be available next week. I'm pretty excited. And judging from what I've heard from a bunch of you nice folks, you guys are too. :)

The paperback will come out a few weeks later, because that still has to be proofed and that takes time. But the ebook versions should be in your eager hands very very soon. Again, sign up for the newsletter because I'll be sending out an email to let my subscribers know, and I'll also post the good news here and on Twitter and Goodreads. Also, be sure to check and make sure that the newsletter isn't getting caught in your spam filter. That would be sad.

Anyway, I'll let you lovely people know as soon as it's available to buy...but until then, here is a tiny little bit of a teaser. And because it's a teaser, AKA it's meant to TEASE, I'm not gonna tell you WHO this line is about. :) You'll just have to guess/wonder/hope.

Finally, some NEWS about Frost #3

Hey everybody!

Guess what? I've been hard at work in my writer's cave for months now, and I am so happy to announce that Frost #3, WEAVERS, goes to my editor for final line edits tomorrow.

YAY!!

* tosses confetti, eats ice cream cake, picks bits of confetti out of ice cream *

Seriously, though. I am soooooooooo glad to be (mostly) done with it and I'm so excited for all of you to get to read it. This week I'll reveal the cover and synopsis and maybe release a few short teases leading up to the release itself. The book will be available in stores sometime in mid to late January. Good News, Snow Flurries, and Cute Kitties!

Hey everybody! Happy almost-December!

Where I live (Georgia), most of the leaves have fallen, and the trees are all naked and shivery in the brand-new chill that's descended. There's even talk of snow flurries today. Winter (and some of my best writing time) is almost here!

Have you survived November? I barely did... but it's almost over...

*sigh*

But! I have so many good news to tell you guys :)

Exciting news!!

So, I've been working on a little project quietly for the last couple of weeks... something I've been meaning to do for awhile now. And yesterday I got a beautiful, shiny present in the mail...

The Curse Girl is in print now!!

Well. SOON. It'll be available soon. That is just a proof.

I am reviewing the proof now and correcting any little errors I see. It's CRAZY how many of those sneak in. I'm convinced they multiply like rabbits.

But!!! It should be available on Amazon in the next few weeks.

I took a few pictures with my cats (as that seems to be the thing to do!) but it was hard to get Sansa to cooperate. She doesn't like having her picture taken. Gizmo, on the other hand, was stoic and blank-faced.

Isn't it soooo pretty??

In other news, today's a good day for The Curse Girl. I'm currently hanging out in two Amazon Top 100 Bestseller lists (both related to fairy tales and mythology). We'll see how long it lasts. But for now, yay :)

Well, I'm excited.

Once Upon a Beanstalk appeared for sale on Amazon at $0.99 late last night. Today it was #53 in the top 100 Fantasy Anthologies on Amazon, which was pretty fun to see (but by the time I took a screenshot it had dropped to #59... boo).

So anyway, if you have a Kindle and like funny, twisty short stories ... head on over and check it out. Feel free to like it or tag it too ;-)

Anyway, it isn't available on Smashwords or Barnes and Noble yet (those files have not been formatted, but hopefully they'll be ready for upload by the end of the week!), but when it is I will be giving away a few free copies in exchange for honest reviews. I'll have more info about that later.

Other announcements:

I have gone ahead and changed my name to Kate Avery Ellison on GoodReads, Twitter, this blog, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and Smashwords. I think that about covers it ... I am still searchable as Kate Ellison, of course, but this way the other author's books aren't showing up in the lists of mine.
