Maybe this never happens to anybody else. But it happens to me. Inevitably, someone who is offended by monsters, zombies, or other kinds of fantasy elements asks about my books ...
I just don't know how to explain my books to some people . . .
Ha ha ha - that happens to me a lot!! I can't help remember reading something that said once, "If you can't summarize what your book is about in one sentence, then it isn't done yet." That always torments me!!
ohman! i know a TON of easily offended people, too! i usually say i write scary stories and then clam up or change the subject. the mum's the word tactic usually works for me, because i'm not overly verbose in real life. :)
I really enjoy your comic updates. That said:
ReplyDeleteYes! This happen to me all the time. Glad to know I'm not alone.

ReplyDeleteI love this. Except I do actually try to explain. I stop when their eyes glaze over...
ReplyDeleteJaime: Thanks! I'm glad to know I'm not alone too ...
ReplyDeleteSarah: I have TOTALLY given up (with some people). If I even mention the word fantasy they are already lost to me.
Nicole: For me, the trick is finding the right single sentence that won't offend whoever might be asking!
ReplyDeleteSome people just don't get it, do they? Just say it like Luna Lovegood--make things really uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteOh, that was me by the way. Melissa Lemon
ReplyDeleteI have to be anonymous or I can't comment without a pop-up window. Lame, I know.
Melissa: Hehe, Luna Lovegood ...
